You have to be at a website other than instagram.com when you turn on developer tools. Some tools and apps will allow you to post vertical photos with a few clicks. Now, tap on the 3 dots at the top right of the post and select Edit. There are two options when you are cropping your images for Instagram: Portrait: 4:5 and Landscape: 1.91:1. The archive feature will just “hide” your old posts from your feed. A solid Instagram template allows for both types of content. All though not happy with the IG app, it helps to know what I was doing before wasn't possible.
